A clearer estimate. A more confident choice.
Window Replacement Quotes in Orlando: What to Compare Before You Sign
The price matters. So do the windows, the work, and the details behind it. Bring these questions to your next estimate.
Go to the comparison checklist
Compare the same project first.
To compare window replacement quotes, match the openings, product specifications, and installation scope before comparing the totals. Ask each company to put its inclusions, exclusions, warranty coverage, and process for extra work in writing.
A quote for an Orlando or Lake Mary home should reflect that home's measured openings and selected products. A price advertised “per window” cannot tell you whether an arched opening, privacy glass, interior finish work, or a patio door is included.
Make one room-by-room list and give it to every installer. Mark which windows you want replaced, which should open, where privacy matters, and whether a sliding glass door belongs in the same project.
Keep this beside your estimates
Your window-quote comparison checklist
For each item, mark both quotes included, excluded, or needs clarification. An unanswered item is a question to resolve before you choose.
| Compare | Ask each installer to identify |
|---|---|
| Openings | Room, quantity, measured size, shape, and operating style for each unit. |
| Exact product | Manufacturer, series or model, frame finish, grids, screens, and hardware. |
| Glass & ratings | Glass package, privacy options, energy ratings, and any specified impact or structural ratings. |
| Installation | Removal, disposal, installation method, sealing, protection of the work area, and cleanup. |
| Permits & inspections | Applicable authority, who handles paperwork and inspections, and whether fees are included. |
| Finish work | Interior trim, drywall, exterior stucco, paint, and any work left to the homeowner or another trade. |
| Possible extras | Exclusions, allowances, and how concealed damage or a change in scope would be priced and approved. |
| Warranty & service | Product and installation coverage, exclusions, labor charges, and whom to contact. |
| Price & timing | Total installed price, payment schedule, estimated order and installation timing, and quote expiration. |
For a combined project, list the sliding door separately, including its panel configuration, moving panels, screen, and hardware.
Check the product behind the description.
“White vinyl window” or “energy-efficient glass” leaves room for different specifications. Ask for the exact manufacturer, series, operating style, and glass package so that you can see what explains a difference in price.
The NFRC consumer guide to window ratings explains the numbers used to compare energy performance:
- U-factor: a measure of heat transfer. A lower value means better insulating performance.
- Solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC): how much solar heat passes through. A lower value admits less solar heat.
- Visible transmittance (VT): how much visible light passes through. A higher value admits more daylight.
Ask for ratings for the product and glass combination actually quoted. Discuss the home's sun exposure and comfort priorities, and confirm impact and structural requirements separately. Energy ratings alone do not establish storm protection.
If the operating style differs between estimates, our single hung versus double hung guide can help you compare everyday use as well as price.
From one Colonial installation
One home can need several different specifications.
The home pictured in this guide includes an arched front opening, windows with grids, textured privacy glass, and a sliding glass door, all installed by Tom Davy and Colonial. Those visible differences are useful reminders of what belongs in an opening-by-opening estimate.
For your home, ask whether the front-window shape and grid pattern are specified, whether privacy glass is included in the intended rooms, and how replacement units will work with existing shutters or blinds. For a slider, confirm which panels move and where the opening will be.

Make the installation scope as clear as the window choice.
Ask each installer to explain what stays, what is removed, how the replacement will be installed, and who completes the surrounding finishes. “Installation included” is more useful when the proposal describes the actual work.
Pay particular attention to paint, drywall, trim, stucco, and removal or reinstallation of window coverings. Do not assume those tasks are included because they are near the window.
How are unexpected conditions handled?
Some conditions may only become visible after an old unit is removed. Ask how the installer documents damage, explains the additional work, and obtains your approval of any added price. Clarify allowances and exclusions before the project starts.
Who handles permits and inspections?
Confirm the requirements and responsible building department for the actual property address. Ask who submits the application, pays applicable fees, arranges inspections, and provides closeout information. Also raise any HOA or historic-property review that may apply to your home.
Colonial prepares and submits permit paperwork when a permit is required for its installation project. Ask Tom to explain the permit scope and fees in your estimate. For preparation and the final walkthrough, see what to expect on window installation day.
Compare the company and the coverage.
Ask who is responsible for the installation, how to reach that person, and what happens if service is needed afterward. Check the contractor's license using Florida DBPR's license search, and request current insurance information from the installer.
Read the manufacturer's product warranty and the installer's workmanship coverage separately. Ask about covered components, labor, service-call charges, exclusions, registration, and transferability. A “lifetime” label does not explain all of those terms.
“If a covered problem occurs after installation, who do I call, and what parts, labor, or service charges could still be my responsibility?”
Review the payment milestones and estimated schedule alongside the scope. If financing is offered, compare its total cost and terms as well as the monthly payment.
Common questions about replacement-window quotes
Why can two quotes for the same number of windows differ?
They may specify different sizes, operating styles, glass packages, product series, installation methods, finish work, or coverage. Use the checklist to identify those differences before treating the totals as a direct comparison.
Should I choose the lowest quote?
A lower price may be a good fit when the products, installation scope, and coverage meet your needs. First clarify what each quote includes and what could be charged separately. A higher price also deserves an explanation of the additional value.
Can I get a reliable installed price without a home visit?
An initial conversation can help define the project. A written installation estimate should be based on measured openings, selected products, and a review of the work. Colonial's process includes a home visit to measure and discuss those details.
Can windows and a sliding glass door be quoted together?
Yes. Colonial can review both during the same project conversation. Have the door configuration and installation scope identified separately so that you can compare the whole project clearly.
